Praying before sex

On our wedding night, my husband and I prayed before we even changed clothes. We knelt by the bed and said our first real prayer together as a married couple. Someone had given that piece of advice to me - to pray before the first time, and I thought it would be a good idea, given that my stomach was trying to turn inside out from nervousness.

Some may ask, why pray? Well, let me ask, why not? If you think it will kill the mood, maybe you should reconsider the mood you'd like to be in. Inviting the Spirit to be with you may kill the mood if the mood is lustful and Godless, but that's probably not what you should be aiming for. Heavenly Father wants husbands and wives to unite sexually and to enjoy it. This is not a time when you should invite the Holy Ghost to leave, but rather you should ensure that you have that companionship.

Strangely, it never occurred to me to pray before sex, still, every time we have sex. Until yesterday. I read it somewhere, and I thought, "that's a good idea," which is exactly what I thought when someone suggested it to me for our wedding night. Since sex involves a lot of feelings, it just makes sense to do all you can to stay uplifted during sex, and inviting the Spirit into your hearts seems to be something that could only help.

  2. So pretty much you and your husband have sex while the Holy Ghost and God sit in a corner and watch while they jack off? No thanks. I can just see how that prayer went,. "Dear Heavenly Father, we thank thee for this day, we thanks thee for temples and marriage. We now ask thee for thy presence while we consummate this eternal marriage. We ask thee to bless the popcorn that thou might eat that it may nourish and strengthen your body while you partake of those popped kernels as you watch us have sex. These things we ask in the name of our savior, even Christ Jesus, Amen.

  3. As I get older There have been times that I have felt the urge to pray before sex. That changed when I got the Viagra prescription. It's all good now.

  5. My favorite quote from this article is to pray "so you can stay uplifted during sex".

    Can't argue with that.

  8. Oh yes. Because all sex is a sacrament. And, of course, the main course should be savored. By god, let's not forget the dessert. Oh thank you for sharing. It must really help your relationship now that he is soon to be your eternal ...........uhmmm. mate (or is that mat). Thanks again for sharing. Can we have exact words like Jesus shared when he prayed?

  9. I don't know why you are getting so much heat for this column. It is a great idea. I have been doing this for years...not praying that the sex will be great, but saying prayers and then reading scriptures together and then making love before we turn off the light and go to sleep in each others arms. I love how it makes me feel.

  10. That is so very very sick, do you pray before you go to the bathroom so you might not touch your privates, or maybe you should pray before you pray. Does this sound strange and ridiculous that's because it is just like prayer before sex. So do you go and talk with the Bishop every Sunday to purge yourself of guilt and give a detailed discription of your sex life so as to make no boo boos. I would never ever marry anyone like this and everyone I know feels the same. Man that is really so paranoid and extreme! Sick!

  11. I like your blog. I'm not a mormon, but these people are so hateful. I like your honesty and how you think through situations, plus you are brave to put yourself out there!
